I wonder why this happened. I imagine that an acquisition means the rights directly transfer to the new owner, but perhaps there was some special clause in the license agreements of these specific shows that prevented automatic rights transfer?

There must be some weird clause/IP ownership agreements that prevent straightforward transfers.
