Sugar is actually pretty good for open wounds cuz the excess osmoticity or whatever kills the bacteria, like salt. That's why honey doesn't go bad.

Also I'm pretty sure sugar helps coagulate blood. So if you cut your finger cooking, stick it in sugar.
