That’s weird. I thought they said it was because he had a cold.

From the article:

Mr Biden, 81, last returned from travel on 15 June, nearly two weeks ahead of the 27 June debate.

Stop pushing age as the problem with Biden. The problem with Biden is Trump. If you don't vote for biden, you get trump.

Fuck off and stop trying to ruin the country.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Look, I’m voting for Biden. But at some point, you have to start dealing in the currency of reality.

[-] HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

If the Democrats had been honest about Biden's state from the start, they could have rallied behind a replacement by now.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I'm thinking of all the low-info types that will be shown clips of Biden, etc...and go vote for donnie, because, hey, at least he's younger.

I don't give a rip about Biden's age - it's just a number and I'm not someone dumb enough to think being younger makes a politician somehow magically better than someone older. And if he's slower and has senior moments - SFW. As long as he wins. Then Kamala can be President if he needs to step down. But we need to win. And that is not likely to happen with the way things are going right now.

[-] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

His age is a problem to the point where some people are worried about voting for him. And the Democrats have to include that fact in their calculus as they make decisions and move forward - or they will lose.

[-] citrusface@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago

R's will vote r. Protest votes and votes of caution and whatever else you can do to justify not voting Biden is going to spell disaster.

If Biden dies in office or whatever - at least another Dem will take over.

Reagan ran his last 2 years with Alzheimer's - just vote for biden that's all you have to do to avoid a catastrophic shit show under Trump

[-] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Of course, we all should vote Dem so we still have a democracy in the future. And I'm not overly picky, so long as they can win. So that should be the question - and if Biden's age impacts his ability to win, the Dems should choose someone who can.

[-] pjwestin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

The problem with Biden is that he's going to lose to Trump. Voters' major concern about Biden was his age, and he completely validated those concerns last week. His polls are bad and getting worse, and we can't wait and see if they get better; we don't have that much time to waste. We need to replace him.

A contested convention is risky, but it's our best shot right now. It would dominate the news cycle for at least two weeks and create energy and excitement in the base. As long as we come out with someone generally inoffensive, we have a good shot of winning. My pick would be Gavin Newsom; I don't particularly like him, but he's polling on Biden without even campaigning.

It is now very unlikely that Biden will win the election. Acknowledging that isn't the problem, and ignoring it and hoping it goes away isn't the solution. We need to accept it and find a solution.

I don’t care about Joe Biden’s age. I care about the fact that the Democrats are obviously lying to us.

It took days for them to come up with the “jet lag” explanation (though they instantly said it was a cold), and he hasn’t travelled internationally for two weeks. Come on, they’re lying.

For many people, I think the shock of Biden’s debate performance was less about the shock of Biden being feeble and more about the shock of realizing that the Democrats have been lying about his feebleness for so long

[-] citrusface@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

You clearly DO care as you decided to push that particular factoid out of this article.

I don't care what the excuses are, I don't give a fuck about anything other than trump NOT becoming president.

So I and you and everyone else in this fucking country with half a gob damn braincell needs to start focusing on the positives you have under Biden and start to TRULY understand how fucked you will be under Trump - especially now that the prez has carte blanch to assassinate people, apparently.

[-] HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No, the part I quoted is evidence that he's probably lying about jetlag.

I don't care about Biden's age.

[-] citrusface@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago

Please go check your comment and edit it then because you quoted a comment about his age.

[-] HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

His age is not what is dooming American democracy. The Democrats being nothing but lies and spin and PR is what is dooming American democracy.

They serve the same corporate interests as Trump but can’t be honest about it, so they dissemble and evade and lie like it’s a habit.

And now some of their lies are crashing down, and they’re still just trying to spin and PR their way out of it.

[-] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Agreed it sucks. What do you want to do about it in the 2024 election?

[-] pjwestin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Call your Senators, Congressman, State Rep, anyone with a D in front of their name. Tell them you've lost confidence in Biden and want the party to pressure him into stepping down before the convention. Then we can hold a contested convention, where the delegates will probably take several rounds of voting to decide a candidate. It's risky, but not as risky as doing nothing. It would also steal the headlines from Trump for a least a few weeks, which could build some momentum for the new candidate.

[-] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 0 points 1 week ago

I don’t think that steals the headlines in a positive way.

[-] pjwestin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I don't think it's going to steal them in a negative way. These things usually go by very quickly, and it's unlikely to become a drawn out, bitter affair like the last few primaries have been. If Biden drops out with grace, and the candidates all agree to keep things positive, it could be a huge boon for the party. Ezra Klein covered it in depth on his podcast this week, it's worth a listen.
