Is actual genocide even unpalatable to you?
I think they really think that their willingness to vote for genocide demonstrates how serious and high minded they are. People sticking to principles is taken to be utopian fantasizing, because real world politics means you have to lend your approval to crimes against humanity.
If the two options to eat are arsenic and cyanide, choosing one of them to eat doesn’t improve your chances of survival.
