How does it hold up against Ardour?

[-] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 1 month ago

Zrythm looks so much more modern and advanced then Ardour.

Looks more modern than Ardour? Hard agree.

Got to say I strongly disagree, I have used Ardour and other DAWs extensively. Ardour is a very good DAW but it's MIDI capabilities are still improving. Zrhythm and Ardour came from different angles and seems like they are both becoming more modern.

Yea you might be right... Also why does Zrythm says "Zrythm-trial" during install under Linux? Is it really a trial only? wth

[-] SatyrSack@feddit.org 7 points 1 month ago

Their download page lists different payment tiers that include things like "Unlimited tracks" and "Z Series plugins". I presume you get those features for a limited time with the trial.

On the other hand, I presume all those features are available to you perpetually if you build it yourself from source instead of installing from a prebuilt binary.

I didn't know this either! Just seen their site, they have several packages: https://www.zrythm.org/en_GB/download.html

I think it is fair enough that they need to make money somehow but looks like they have only made £155 in November which is a shame. I have been a low-level donor for Ardour for 12 years now, and you can see they make something like £4000. I will check out Zrhythm properly as they obviously put a lot of effort in.

That is really a shame! Owh this £155 in November is that only donations? Maybe they also earn via Purchases?

[-] christophski@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

I had assumed that was both but not sure

Modern meaning a GTK app?

The only other DAW I've used before Ardour was Reaper and I got my head around Ardours Ui a lot quicker on my first go.

Yes GTK v4 is very modern. There is nothing wrong with GTK and C++.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
