The cat was caught in a Catch and Release program and clipped ear is a sign of her being sterilized.

The vet was a little too generous with the cut though. It's the equivalent between snipping a small sliver off your ear or completely severing your entire earlobe.

Yesterday my wife was about to mop the floor and she typically puts the cat inside a wardrobe. The cat fought extremely hard this time and left a massive gash on her hand.
