The Chicago Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at federal agents in the 2500 block of South Kedzie Avenue on Saturday morning, police said. "There are no reports of anyone struck by gunfire," CPD said.

Follow-up story on what I posted the other day about DHS reports of being fired on in Little Village.

The more "details" are ... there aren't any. No video, CPD couldn't even find the location of the alleged shooting, the only source for this is "DHS said."

A driver fired shots at Customs and Border Patrol agents in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood on Saturday, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

I don't, but there's nothing stopping you from making these, packaging them up with "whistle code" cheat sheets, and handing them out at protests, wherever you happen to be.

Thanks @witten!

This effort is specific to Washington state, but this applies anywhere.

He mad because I wouldn't let him talk to himself.

Nations aren't houses, the rise of fascism isn't as simple as a fire, and the long-term solution isn't just "put the fire out."

If you want a real successful revolution (which I do), there needs to be a critical mass of people willing to act. That critical mass hasn't yet been reached, but I'd be willing to bet that putting a bunch of like-minded people in the same place, loud and angry, will help to build it. Especially if the fascists react to any of it with "impropriety."

All efforts great and small. Go do your part.

Yeah, call it off, let's do nothing instead.

You ought to be reading more closely.

I've repeated my own statements multiple times now. I'm not going to repeat yours.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 1 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Did you want to take anything back now, or no?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 2 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

You ought to be reading more closely.

Notice that I didn't disagree with your statement to "be armed," but rather offered relevant caution about what being armed at a protest may result in, twice closing with "Know what you're doing and what the consequences may be."

I'm leaving this whole exchange here, because I think it's useful, but I reserve the right to change my mind about that.

Because I've pointed out that the world that actually exists isn't what you want it to be? Check yourself.

There’s also freedom of speech, alongside slander, defamation, terroristic threats, truth in advertising, and on and on.

The reality is that many states have laws that say it’s illegal to bring weapons to a protest. Failure to abide by those laws will carry consequences - whether you are ultimately successful in getting such laws ruled unconstitutional or not.

Know what you’re doing and what the consequences may be.

Careful about being armed. It’s illegal to attend a protest while carrying any weapon in a whole lot of states.

Just know what you’re doing and what the consequences may be.

October 18, 2025, may be a turning point. The administration has been gearing up to stomp a jackboot down on people who would oppose them. There's going to be a lot of us out there marching, and some of us might end up under that heel.

Be prepared. Bring water. Have an escape plan. Be ready to help those near you.

This is also important: if you aren't able to directly participate, for whatever reason, you are still needed. Just like there needs to be ten times the number of support people in the wings behind fighting troops, we will need you in the wings supporting us.

I'm going to be focused on the world in my immediate vicinity, so I'm going to need you to post relevant breaking news as it comes up. That way I can check in from time to time to keep abreast of what's going on elsewhere, and pass that information to the people near me. People who need to escape are going to need somewhere to go, and maybe a way to get there. They'll need food, water, medical care, and moral support when they get there.

We're in this together. Wherever you are, whether you're carrying a sign on the street, keeping yourself safe away from the fray, or anywhere in between - you are necessary and you are still part of this.

I was noticing slowness last night, okay, don't panic. But this morning it's still slow and the most recent thing on the feed is 12 hours old.

Sorry @jerry@fedia.io, I had to ping you again.

In jurisprudence, selective prosecution is a procedural defense in which defendants argue that they should not be held criminally liable for breaking the law because the criminal justice system discriminated against them by choosing to prosecute. In claims of selective prosecution, defendants essentially argue that it is irrelevant whether they are guilty of violating a law, but that the fact of being prosecuted is based upon forbidden reasons. Such a claim might, for example, entail an argument that persons of different age, race, religion, sex, gender, or political alignment, were engaged in the same illegal acts for which the defendant is being tried yet were not prosecuted, and that the defendant is being prosecuted specifically because of a bias as to that class.

This is an application (website, iOS, Android) which allows you to record public "goings on" and upload those recordings to a searchable database.

It's geotagged so loved ones can possibly figure out what happened to their missing person

It's a huge collection to fuel outrage and disgust by the general public, free to use by journalists, activists, anyone willing to help spread the public shame

It's a long-term evidence archive for future accountability in court

I am also told that at least one fire station had kept their flag lowered, and locked it in place, requiring the fire chief to come cut the lock. Also that there are people sneaking around lowering flags.

The Charlie Kirk shooting suspect is in state custody, NBC News confirms.

The suspect is still at large - officials earlier said they found a high-powered rifle in woods near where Kirk was shot.

Also, "high powered rifle" essentially means "not a 22".

Obviously, if you own a firearm, you should possess a sufficient amount of ammunition for it. Defense ammo (hollow point) is great, but range ammo makes holes, too.

But when the shit hits the fan, you will also be able to trade ammunition for food, water, fuel. It'll be a more reliable medium of exchange than currency, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. This makes it worth stocking up on for anyone.

I don't pretend to be an expert, but there are definitely callibers that are more common than others:

  • 9mm (9x19, 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum) These are pistol rounds, very common for use in semi-automatics.

  • .22LR Standard 22 caliber round, pretty much everything that fires a 22 (pistol or rifle) will use these. Very popular, very inexpensive.

  • Other pistol rounds: 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 380 ACP, 38 Special While these are going to be less widely sought after, people who have guns that use these will need them.

  • .223/5.56 These are rifle rounds, very common in AR-style rifles. Of note, the 5.56 round contains more powder and a heavier bullet. In most cases, you can shoot .223 in any rifle chambered for .223 or 5.56, but shooting 5.56 in a .223 rifle can damage the gun (possibly catastrophically).

  • 308 Winchester Also a rifle round, primarily used for large game hunting (think deer, bear, maybe moose). If you're in an area with a lot of large game and their hunters, this round may be valuable

  • 7.62x39 AK rifle round, also used in some AR. This is a light military round, so it won't have as large a market as the others, but has the potential to be very valuable to the right person.

  • 12ga 12 gauge shotgun shell, as suggested by @shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works. Buckshot, since slugs can be damaging to shotguns that are tightly choked for shot.

  • Other shotgun shells 20ga, 16ga are used in smaller shotguns.

Don't broadcast far and wide that you have ammunition. You risk making yourself a target. Just like a wallet full of cash, don't go flashing it around.
