I honestly still cannot comprehend what made them so popular.

They are essentially heavily punctured galoshes, combining stiffness with total lack of water protection - you normally prioritize wearing comfort or protection, but crocs uniquely suck at both.

To me, this will likely remain an example of an idiotic design popularized against common sense.

And they're ridiculously expensive for some injection molded foam rubber. You don't have to cut or sew leather or fabric, or bind soles, or punch holes for laces like with a shoe/boot. Manufacturing them is cheap as shit. So why do they cost so much?

$40-50 for a shoe that lasts half a decade doesn't seem bad. What do you think they should cost?

They only last that long if you only use them to fetch the mail or take out the trash.
