Let me start by saying that I agree that it’s a company that’s out there to make profit by any means and that they’ve been a huge pile of shite.
But this isn’t virtue signalling.
Virtue signalling by definition means preaching something you don’t practice.
They didn’t only say they’re open sourcing it, they actually did.
They might be doing it to try and “buy” some goodwill from the general populous, that’s possible, but they at least did something tangible to that end.
Would’ve been cool if they released the assets too in addition to the code but I recon there might be reasons why that was not possible.
