Welcome to lemmy :3

A few tips:

  1. If you're coming from Reddit know karma here isn't a thing and nobody really cares how many likes you get
  2. If you want a great mobile client I reccomend Thunder
  3. You will see a lot of Linux users and Queer people (with overlap), also expect to see a lot of :3
  4. Unless you set up filters in the settings except to see a lot of political content
  5. If you want some memes I reccomend !memes@lemmy.world and !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone
  6. If you just want to post cat pictures feel free :3

What does NSFW stand for? Nudes Sex Fun Wanking? Is switching on cause explicit content to show up or block it?

Not Safe For Work, mostly nudity, sometimes violence.

I don't know where you are doing the switching on or off part.

I do this over my app (Boost), where I have to turn it on (show NSFW content) to see it.

NSFW also includes spoilers for now, as Lemmy devs don't care about spoilers. (They will come with post tags sometime in the future.) (This is similar to mastodon but they named it "content warning")

I downloaded the Lemmy Voyager app for iOS and there is a toggle switch for this item.

The term “not safe for work” reminds me of an episode of “I think you should leave” on Netflix

Just like Reddit, depending on the instance you join Lemmy allows for pornographic & gore content to be posted.

I would suggest logging into your instance, in this case for you it’s https://sh.itjust.works/, and navigate to your profile to turn NSFW content off.
