there needs to be a third guy, the radical leftist, who blames it all on the liberal for not doing anything.
The third leftist is complaining the entire time about how they are going to get their own boat, even though there are no supplies and they are in the middle of the ocean.
While he also just sits there, doing nothing
Other than take the gun from the liberal to save us all, wtf could he have done?
Leftists don't go on boat rides with fascists.
Just to help you with media literacy stuff, the boat in this comic represents the entire country. You don't get to chose what "boat" you was born in. So, as a perfect addition to this metaphor, you decided to pretend it doesn't affect you, and didn't do anything to stop the fascist, but also tried to be as smug about it as possible.
Its not the country itself that is inherently bad, its the institutions and people with power and system that gets those people there.
Greetings from germany.
Buddy. Why are you so bothered by a guy not wanting to support a genocide? You draw the line when it's you on that line. Meanwhile the leftist drew it at genocide. Maybe ask yourself why your line wasn't fucking genocide.
Ask yourself why you are so selfish that fascism and ethnic cleansing wasn't a good enough reason for you to step back and go "oh shit" until it was people directly around you facing fascism and ethnic cleansing.
You don't care about bloodshed until it is your blood and your shed.
I find this an issue when I hear people discuss this point. In the previous US election you had two candidates who were effectively capable of taking the spot. Both of them were Pro-Israel because US interests abroad have always been genocide apathetic in the face of economic gains. So you were not voting for Israel / Palistine. You were voting for which regime you would have an easier time to pressure into Palistinian support and which one could be compelled to do the least amount of damage in the meantime.
If you chose abstention then yeah, people are gunna be angry because we're all fucking scared.
Abstention from voting as a protest measure has never worked but besides all that - It is too late now. Now instead of having space to fight against genocide abroad there's not much space because now Americans have to direct their energies to stopping everything else from going to shit. You won't be able to fight at all if this regime gets its way. It is time to move on and deal with the problems American's collective choices have wrought not defend the good intentions that got us here.
Speaking of abstention from voting. I've lost count of how many non-voters have told me that "not voting is not inaction". Often saying voting is going above and beyond. Saying that protesting is the bare minimum. These children don't understand it's exactly the opposite. You can protest and campaign for days, but if you end up never voting, then you didn't do the bare minimum and it was all pointless.
I also find it odd that these people always have the exact same talking points and the exact same failed "gotchas". It's almost like they are all watching/listening to some left version of Fox News.
I can understand their feelings of powerlessness in a two party system where both parties suck. Here in Canada the concept of strategic voting has been the norm for at least the past 20 years because people are aware of how shit the first past the post system is and how it forces us into a two party race we don't want but need to compromise on to make progress. We've spent that time trying to make viable third parties and that has worked to pressure the Canadian version of the Democrats to court more leftist politicians for support and minority governments with three parties have caused a steady march towards a better chance at fixing the underlying issue.
But unfortunately that's bred a backlash from people who think very much like Republicans. It was very rough watching Americans fall into a trap we Canadians have been stepping strategically around for so long.
And by not voting or voting third-party, you and 90 million (non-voters) and 3 million (third-party) others have collectively decided authoritarianism was worth a try. At least my candidate was talking about peace talks and can be peacefully protested. Harris on Ceasefire
Good job, but we all lost.
Violent fucker exposes his violence for the world to see.
Violent doesn't mean dangerous. Just means violent. A cat is violent. A cat is not dangerous.
Personally, I voted for the lesser of two evils in Harris. But now that it's over I cannot blame anyone who couldn't bring themselves to debase their morals for their own personal salvation.
What I find so fucking frustrating is that now the Dems have been shown they cannot stand on genocide and still win and instead of that legendary pressure your talking about, instead we get people blaming Dems for being too woke and attacking anti genocide folks for not playing ball.
AT THE END OF THE FUCKING DAY, THE ONES COMMITTING GENOCIDE ARE TO BLAME. PERIOD. END OF STORY.
Everyone is blaming the Dems for being everything. For pandering to the left or to the middle or to their courting of Republican voters... It's worthless effort. The Democrat playbook has been to play by the rules which systemically support the crony capitalism status quo. The only benefit of them is that they play by the rules which means if you pressure them enough to change the rules they can be manipulated.
Realistically speaking voting them in was one point on a checklist of multiple things that needed to happen to progress and as long as the rest of the checklist is happening then it's an ethical win. It's not a matter of "debasing one's morals" so long as you are doing the other things on the list. This idea of cooing over people's reluctance to hold one's nose and swallow the nasty pill is one I truly believe people need to get over. People should learn from their mistakes so they don't repeat them and the pat on the head with the "You only did what you thought was right" routine is in the end not a kindness. People need to learn how the levers of power work and what is effective tactics and what are the traps that the system baits to stop people from effectively participating.
Hands need to get dirty to make change happen and not every step is a feelgood exercise in feeling righteous. It's a boring slog of a group project. That feeling of refusal to compromise on values for any reason is the easiest thing in the world to exploit and divide people and we collectively should up the social cost of that action and teach that collectivism has it's costs. No effective movement in the history of mankind has checked every box for every member who propelled it to success. We can all afford to swallow a few nasty pills and bank on the delayed gratification of setting up a future win because the alternative is violence which doesn't have historically great outcomes... And yes that sometimes means somebody you don't like gets some kickback out of it.
Inaction by deadlock of a bunch of actors refusing to properly collaborate unless their demands are met are enemies of making change. It's just really hard to chisel past he messaging that they are not actually a noble group because so often we're taught that absolute rigidity of every stage of praxis is the virtue by which change is made. The people who sowed that narrative were knowingly or not imparting weakness. We don't need paragons or heroes we need people who can take tactical advantage of the natural cupidity of the powers that be and be willing to shake with one hand and hold a knife in the other.
as a leftist I find that to be great in a system that allows third parties. the US doesn't, so the strategy should be to reduce harm. "can't support genocide" doesn't work as an excuse for an action that is guaranteed to make things worse. if the only two options are between 4 concentration camps and 14 concentration camps, you vote for the 4 concentration camps candidate. until you change the system, anything else is irresponsible.
I somewhat agree, as I did in fact vote for the dems myself. Lesser of two evils is a valid arguement. However alot of these people are not making that arguement. And even as a lesser of two evil situation, i cannot fault those who's morals prevent them from choosing any evil, especially one as large as genocide. But once again, that is unfortunately not the conversation alot of people take this in, Instead I'm arguing with people who are talking about "fixing their own back yard first" or "saving their ship".
But at the end of the day, I cannot blame the people who didn't vote. I cannot find fault with people who morally could not bring themselves to make that lesser evil argument to themselves and instead, ultimately, the fault lies with the left most party refusing to drop their genocidal bloodlust and instead chose to stand on it and lost for it. They make the plans, they make the campaign, and they blew it. Case closed.
you start with your own back yard. then you can move on. it's going to take all of us to clean up our own back yard first. you're not saving anybody if you can't save yourself.
Cool cool, hey before we start on our own back yard can we stop fucking up the neighbors back yard? I feel like before we can start saving ourselves we need to stop actively killing others.
WE AINT SAVING ANYONE EXCEPT FOR SAVING THEM FROM OURSELVES. YOUR ANALOGY IS BUSTED.
So how are you coping up with forced deportations of every student who spoke against genocide, forced incarceration of people in El Salvador, renewed arming of Israel, Trump's grand plan to raze Gaza, kick out all Palestinians and build a Trump city, while destroying global economy and actively causing more deaths not only in Palestine but in Africa as well ? Must be quite a rewarding experience to own the dems, isn't it?
Here's my point of view on the situation. I voted for the Dems as a lesser of two evils but I cannot fault those who couldn't bring themselves to do the same. In the end the Dems lost because they were more willing to risk a Donald Trump presidency than they were to stop actively committing a genocide. I blame them. I blame the party for being so willing to risk the election on an issue they knew was going to hurt because at the end of the day supporting that genocide was more important than any other outcome.
Why is it you blame random fucking people and not the party who had all that data, all that polling, all that info that continuing to support the genocide was hurting them and chose to plow forth anyways? You are blameing people who don't want to vote for a genocide instead of the people that threw the election to continue it?
Genuinely. Man to whatever gender you are, level with me here. Do you really see the Dems as having less responsibility for losing that election than the random faceless amalgamation of leftists who couldn't bring themselves to say yes to a genocide? Is that truly where you want to stand?
Once again. I voted for the Dems. I made that lesser evil judgement. I am saying it's the Dems fault for losing that election.
