A US official said that initial reports from the scene indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.

That's why they call it "emergency maneuver" and don't do that without reason, meaning they had to do evasive manuvers to not be hit by Ansar Allah drone or missile.

Those are actually pretty agile for their size and can make hard turns
