That’s pretty fascinating evolutionarily. It has a metamorphosis stage literally just so it can get wings to better find a mate, fuck, and die.

I think we and our closest relatives are the weird ones. If I remember right, most species of animal can reproduce until they die, and many die after reproducing. We kinda complicated things not just by looking after our children but also their children too.

Our caterpillar stage is being socialized and learning the current culture. It’s interesting that many cultures have rites into adulthood, like a symbolic cocoon stage.

“It takes a village” is evolutionary advantageous perhaps; mixing avoids extremes.
