From Grunge to Gangsta Rap and everything in between! Post a song and let's talk about it!
Rules
- All aspects of the LW TOS apply.
- Be constructive and don't gatekeep. Music is highly subjective, and people have different tastes.
- If the source is YouTube, use the actual YouTube URL rather than a specific Invidious/Piped link. This prevents dead links as those go on/offline or break due to Google changes while also letting people's browser plugins, Lemmy clients, etc automatically re-write YT links to their preferred instances. Feel free to put alternate links in the post body, though.
- Put the link to the song in the URL field and not the post body.
- Submissions must be from the 90s (1990 - 1999) based on either recorded or release date. e.g. if it was recorded in 1999 but released in 2000, we're not going to split hairs over that; post away. Covers made in the 90s of older music is absolutely allowed and encouraged.
Posting Guidelines / Suggestions
- The preferred title format is
Artist - Song Name [YEAR]
- If a song has a particular meaning or evokes a pleasant memory for you, feel free to share your story with it.
If you have other suggestions that would help grow the community and/or foster discussion, please feel free to share.

I'm a goob, and I really actually love The Offspring. This song though, has always been too er...campy to me? Just never really liked it. Which is kind of funny, considering how much I like I Choose. I think this song has calypso drum which is cool but there's jut something about it that annoys the shidiggle outta me, same way Original Gangsta does. Eh.
Okay...
I hope #2 wan't too oddly specific lol.
Edit: Lol, Original Prankster, not "Gangster". Surprised nobody corrected either of us .
Hahaha, I knew I'd get it for going against the Spring, but I really do love the band. When I was younger and I was introduced to Alternative they were one of the first bands I ever heard and I really fell in love. I had only a couple of their albums, but I really loved them and damned if I didn't live by them for a while (Ixnay and Americana). I like the funky little instrumentals for Original Gangsta by the by. I just didn't get the song, same kind of thing for like...Weezer's Beverly Hills. I mean it's for sure California rock but like...what? Just isn't my cup of tea I guess, but also like...I am a sadist and I don't like The Office (it actually hurts me to watch). So like maybe it's just like not in me to be down with this kind of stuff. Idk.
I actually totally know what you mean here! For my friend group it was blasting this cause we don't like no bum ass bitches. At least, it was kind of the sentiment while jamming out to Get a Job. Different genres though, so it might sound like screeching cats to your ears just a heads up.
The camp is kinda the great part of it. They bring a certain tongue in cheek vibe to a lot of songs, but they lean hard into it with this one, and it was very refreshing at the time.
Not saying that to change your mind, just reflecting on my inner experience of the track.
I'm not certain I would feel the same way if it was new now, because the music landscape has shifted to a less, I dunno, overly serious standard than it was then. There's more room for fun songs currently, so maybe hearing this one, the camp could read as too much, I dunno.
I figured a song either vibes with you or not. Tons of folks have loved a ton of songs that I have tried to get with and felt absolutely nothing from. I think this is one of them. I love The Cranberries, but I hate Linger. It makes me want to pull the hair from my head. I think this is my Offspring Linger. I think this song was from Americana right? Yeah, I listened to that cd like craziness when I was younger. As a professional fidgetter though, truth be told - the later you got on a cd the more likely I'd end up passing you by unless I found the album an absolute banger. I mantra-d the dick bits of She's Got Issues into my ears on repeat to the point that I can sing it forwards and backwards and it was probably just my very gay self trying to escape my body at the time because I loved singing about gals and that's the same damn reason why I can sing Teenage Dirtbag even without having heard it in probably twenty years as well.
I hear what you're saying. I do like weird/experimental/campy jams too! I think my favorite fuck around song is Panda, Panda, Panda which I always end up playing if I get new audio-playing things of some kind (speakers/headphones etc.) I just really think there's a disconnect between me and the jam is all.
P.S. - It's why I can't listen to that one band the Blackhawks play cause I liked them plenty fine before but after a while their jams just became cringy to me because I associate it with assholes >.>!
