Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is Israeli interceptors trying and failing to intercept missiles over their cities.

Israel just carried out a widespread bombing of Iran, which has killed a number of senior officials inside Iran (though it seems the leadership is more-or-less intact) as well as a number of civilians. Important facilities have been targeted, but the amount of damage is unknown so far (note that many important Iranian facilities are deep underground, making them both hard to damage but also hard to determine if they are damaged from just satellite imagery, so reports of damage will be he-said-she-said).

It appears the attack took Iran by surprise, given that a residential block was targeted that contained some senior officials - if one saw an attack coming, one would imagine they'd be in bunkers. Nonetheless, like the rest of the Resistance Axis, I suspect that Iran has adapted their military structures to be resistant to decapitation strikes by ensuring that replacement figures are ready to take the place of killed officials.

Iran has delivered a massive missile barrage in response to Israeli aggression, even though Israel is continuing to bomb Iran. Iran is now aware of the location of many important Israeli sites, including secret nuclear sites, due to their recent intelligence haul, giving them a distinct edge.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Israel announces failure of assassination operation against al-Ghamari, Chief of Staff of Ansar Allah

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 58 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ansar allah has some lessons to teach Iran about op sec

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 48 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It's legitimately puzzling how Ansar Allah has done a better job protecting it's top brass than Iran. My best guess is that Ansar Allah is significantly less compromised than the Iranian government.

It's gotta be at least partially the pressure of constant war there. Iran hasn't been at war in the way it is now for a while now, whereas Yemen has been bombed for years and years now. Those with weaker opsec get picked off by Israel, leaving those with stronger opsec.

Some nations buckle under that pressure (e.g. Syria) whereas others manage to only get strengthened by it in a military/political sense. Nothing to do with "tougher" people or anything of course, lots of material and social factors.

Saudi Arabia breeding an assassination-resistant strain of non state actor by not properly finishing their course of imperial conquest.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Remember when they killed Haniyeh in the middle of Tehran with a planted bomb because they know exactly what room he would be staying in?

Iran leaks like a sieve. They need to purge massive parts of their government seemingly.

The common denominator in a bunch of the decpation strikes in Syria and Lebanon was the presence of IRGC officials, as well.

For a while I wondered if having a culture that values martyrdom just makes you less careful about opsec, but Ansar Allah is an arguement against that.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

The overthrow of Assad was a bloodbath for IRGC too. Entire staff locked out immediately, Hezb left stranded and picked off with Israeli air cover. When Iran fails with intelligence they do so terminally

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago

Also their leadership was participating in guerrilla warfare just a few years ago, that probably helps with making you paranoid about op sec

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 45 points 1 week ago

Why would they announce their own failure?

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

yeah is there an official israeli source on this? they generally don't

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Apparently the guy in charge of intelligence just resigned, so they are probably getting hit harder than they say.

i feel like this has happened like 3 times since oct 7, israel just chews through these guys. maybe it's like cartoon supervillains who kill their minions after a single mistake or failure

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Latest guy was blocked from resigning by the courts until literally today apparently. Im pretty sure he was openly feuding with Netanyahu over his insistence on burying israeli hostages in rubble instead of negotiating.
