I have no idea if my mum is doing it or if a bad actor is doing it, but I keep getting emails from Apple support addressed to my mum to saying

"We have reviewed your request, and access to your account (my email @gmail.com) has been denied.

Sincerely,

Apple"

It looks legit, the email it's from looks legit, and I suspect it's because a long time ago I'd helped my mum set up her phone and she didn't have an email at the time. But I don't know how to give it back to her or whatever, there's nothing actionable in the email, and it's giving me a stress headache looking at emails addressed to mum. It's making me feel really anxious, that to resolve this I might have to break my no-contact.

Fuuuuuuuck

She can get a new phone it's fine, just ignore

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago

Thank you πŸ™ I think I just needed a voice of reason to give me permission to ignore lol

If this is distressing you think about using a new account for yourself, transferring email to the new one and deleting the old email account

yes, I know it's a pain but it might be the easiest way

and it will cut the link to you

It would be harder tbh, the email I used is my main one I use for important stuff. I'm just going to ignore them and have Gmail send them to a junk folder

Can you put a different email on there? It might be possible to change it

If no access you could maybe report it hacked and request it to be closed

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Have you checked with your mum if she’s trying to access the account and is maybe getting the PW wrong? If not, then it’s a hack attempt.

I haven't spoken to her since before COVID, I'm just going to ignore them like Force suggested πŸ˜…

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 9 months ago

Oh of course, I remember now you’ve shared some tough stuff with us regarding the parental relationship. Yeah just ignore. Not your problem.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago

Don’t do it

Can you just like close the account? Otherwise I’d remove any payment methods and personal information and set a really strong password (with 2 factor) and ignore

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Is there another person you can use to communicate with her?

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Nope. I'm not in contact with her or her entire family.

I'm just gonna take Force's advice and ignore, have Gmail send those apple emails direct to a junk folder I think πŸ’œ

Gotta do what you gotta do. πŸ’œ
