wait why are those two things linked?

I use CachyOS on PC, and GrapheneOS on mobile, and a VPN on both. so as long as Google requires an approved mobile device to scan the QR code, then I'm effectively banned from any site that uses recaptcha.

I'm not about to buy a new phone and sign up for a Google account just to use a website, all because a corporation wants to track me.

I'm guessing this is referring to Google's captcha service being use at Archive.today

Archive.Today starting to use Google's QR-based reCaptcha

What does Google have to do with archive sites?

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

they use recaptcha. that now requires a Google approved mobile device for anyone using a custom ROM or accessing the site using Linux or a VPN. I use CachyOS on PC and GrapheneOS on mobile, and a VPN on both, so I'm effectively banned from any of the Archive sites from now on, until or unless they stop using Google.

I'm not sure what Google has to do with it, but here you go: https://archive.is/75fuN
