There's an 'ambient anxiety that AI is going to make things dramatically worse'

AI has already made things dramatically worse. permanent erasure of entry level jobs is not the concern of anyone except those gullible enough to have bought the AGI hype. these jobs were already going extinct before the AI boom. this is not "luddites vs automation" (which never was true anyway).

this "AI" is something that does something somewhat related to our jobs worse, so either managers cut these jobs and the things that are produced get shittier, or the existing jobs become radically worse since managers on linkedin are circlejerking their expectation to unimaginable heights.

even ignoring the jobs, they have made everything shittier. our entertainment, social media, news, voting, etc etc. like thomas massie got booted out of congress because some boomers believed israeli AI ads about massie having threesomes with AOC and ilhan omar (holy mother of racism) was real. personally i cannot talk to any of my family members without getting an aneurysm with just how much bullshit they can pull out of their phone. it was bad and now it's fucking worse. i genuinely do not see the bottom of this depravity.

Getting into cybersecurity instead of development is the best decision I made. I'm going to be loaded when vibe coded apps start falling apart.

getting into AI engineering instead of any other field was the worst mistake of my life. everyone's brains is turbofucked either high on their own supply or just glad that after 20 or so years of being the black sheep of computer engineering, people are suddenly caring about them and funding them.
