As far as I remember the most accepted theory by the lore community was that the Shadow Realms was where the "ocean gap" in the Lands Between is. I mean one of the hints was how the giants' remains got from the Mountains all the way to the North down to Caelid
This is one of those theories! There are just a lot of different ideas on exactly how and where it fits into the sea. The connection between Caelid and the Mountaintops is part of why I think my idea works (though not what I based it on)
