Is there data to support this? I imagine if a fire breaks out in an apartment and I don't wake up in time, I'm fucked anyway. Hopefully smoke detectors in all rooms will do their job.

I don't see a request for feedback. I see someone asking for data from a commenter, saying they were probably fucked either way, and hoping smoke detectors would help. The only request was for supporting data, and why would you trust "data" from a random commenter?
