I am trying to install and play BFME (Battle For Middle-Earth), BFMEII, ROTWK (Rise Of The Witch King) & TAOTR (The Age Of The Ring) I do not have any of the game files, or games, as I couldn't find a way to actually download the games and have them work right. That is until I came upon this guide (linked below). Only issues I have are the graphics themselves and how laggy the game is

Outside of this guide, I have gone down numerous rabbit holes with no resolution. So many websites with outdated information or lack thereof. Any help would be appreciated.

Lutris is just slop it breaks constantly and it's unreliable. Try Heroic Launcher.

Does Heroic Launcher handle Wine/Proton stuff?

[–] Brewchin@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

It does. Very well. Comes with the GE (Glorious Eggroll) version of Proton by default.

I use it for all non-Steam/-native games.

From what I understand, it does! You can select what wine/proton version to run similar to the way steam does AFAIK.

I installed Rocket League through heroic and it was infinitely simpler than the lutris install I did years ago. I don't even have to have the epic games launcher installed, one click install and one click play from the heroic launcher.

It sure does and tons of other useful features

I downloaded Heroic Launcher. I created a wine prefix. However, I do not have the game files. How do I proceed forward from here?

What do you mean you don't have the game files? As in, you don't have the installer?

Normally you should click on "New Game", give it a name, then "run installer" and it'll allow selecting the installer wherever it is on your disk, run through the installation procedure, and finally you have to select "path to executable" and navigate to game's executable in the wine prefix.

If you already have the installed game files, create a "New Game", give it a name, save it, open the win prefix, copy the game files into the prefix (e.g C:/Game) and in heroic again, select the path to the executable.

If that isn't helping, you need to provide more information about your situation.

I was trying to locate the files to download too. I did an edit for my post. I found a guide to actually get the launcher to work on Linux, but now I'm hitting a road block for grpahics and the game lagging
