I think the point is that the general public's view of the tianamen protests are skewed by the media and people are deceived into thinking that the nature of the protests revolved around people wanting a liberal democracy in China which wasn't the case at all, that's what some of the protests were about.

The Chinese government has an official policy of not discussing any historical events that are deeply controversial due to the broad international propaganda that it cannot control. When a dozen or more countries are all producing literal fabrications about the event year after year, it's just worth trying to win the debate by speaking truth to power. Instead they just choose to say it's not something they're willing to discuss.
