Dunking on Liberals from a leftist, anti-capitalist perspective.

Dems keep working with trump to approve his picks, but what they won't accept is that if you sit down at a table with nazis, the only thing that's changed is the number of nazis at the table. @_cryptagion@anarchist.nexus

the torrent of shitlibs on The Mastodon Network™ engaging in their most daring acts of #resistance to date by canceling their fucking Disney+ is just overwhelming. I shudder to think what the timeline looks like on hrk Bluesky 😦

Don't underestimate the power of boycott and voting with your wallet. It's one of the few things - if not the only thing - left that people can do safely, that has a real impact on corporate decision-making. And since the corporations are in cahoots with the government in a fascist regime, that in turn has a real impact on policies.

What doesn't have an impact is people boycotting X, Y or Z one day when they get their pants in a knot over the scandal du jour that everybody forgets about one week later, and then it's back to business as usual. Corporations count on people's fecklessness and always wait long enough to see if the issue goes away by itself.

So if people want to vote with their wallet effectively, they have to do it in the long run.

/uj You don't "vote" with your wallet, you excercise political force though actual activism

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 2 points 3 months ago

You can do both.

Streaming services are like gym memberships: the incentives are all screwed up because they make most of their money from people who never use the service. They just thought they would, and never got around to cancel.

That means that for a lot of their customers, cancelling is zero cost (even positive cost) and you are not getting those people back.

This is a much different proposition than trying to boycott the only supermarket in a 30 min area.

more effective than posting on forums that agree with you for upvotes

so resistance right now

Ps, on Bluesky the Disney plus thing has mostly blown over. We’re angry at Ezra Klein now.

Sucks humans don't have the capacity to feel two opinions or know two facts at once.

This phenomenon is less of an individual thing and more of an ensemble property, as statistical mechanics would say.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Why are we angry at Ezra?

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

Bluesky has the same amount of libs proportionally, but the algorithm pushes them to everyone.

Blocking the blue heart emoji helps

Yeah, pales in comparison with all the meaningful action we're doing here.
