Kamala Harris received 1,748,140 votes in New York City,
Zohran Mamdani received 1,036,051 votes
They hate this fact. Mamdani only got 50% in deep blue NYC
Kamala did worse than Biden in New York. She won, but people looked at Trump and a Black woman and chose the rapist.
Mamdani is doing better than I'd have hoped for, but we're still deep, deep in the woods. Now isn't the time to start demanding perfection.
It’s almost like Biden got the most votes ever and 2024 was a red wave year. If Mamdani had ran in 2024, he prolly be less than 50%, still a win, but closer. Thats just how elections are. Candidates rarely overperform wave years against their party.
Kamala could run again in 2028, and with a strong Dem wave, could easily break Biden’s margins. It’s not that complicated.
I imagine you'll struggle to find any locally elected politician anywhere who got a bigger turnout than that for the presidential race.
Which is odd, considering how much local law affects you
There were early voting options in that election.
Mamdani was very lucky because the incumbent, Adams, got caught in a major scandal before the election.
But even running against a know sex offender and a radio DJ he only garnered 51% of the vote.
Things are different now that he's been elected, but let's not pretend that he was swept in by a giant Progressive wave.

Trump never stood against a progressive. I agree there's no progression wave, but Mamdani did not just get lucky. He took care of people's concerns better.
I've written this far too many times.
Bayard Rustin was a gay man who worked closely with MLK. Rustin was as important as anyone to getting the March organized. He never once pushed King to speak on gay rights, because they both knew that 'doing the right thing' would kill the movement.

What are you talking about? Why do leftist ignore the big elephant in the room when it comes to electoral politics? Trump and the GOP HAVE THE WHITE VOTE. They thrive off racism to win elections. Dems and no other party have that.

100% is marketing. Mamdani really isn’t doing any policies that progressive Dems at the local level haven’t already done or tried to do.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has damn near an identical policy position as Mamadani, but he’s not promoted by the mainstream media and pundits every week, so the public gives him hell. Holchul literally agreed to absorb NYC’s debt for the entire state to pay off to help Mamdani’s agenda breathe, and the far left still gives her hell, despite her not even having to do that for him.
Politics is deeply unserious today.

Ronald Reagan's trickle down destroyed the middle class, and most Americans still revere him.
I'm getting downvoted for trying to point out the obvious, that any progress is going to be slow, and we should grab onto any help whatever.
That’s not true. Black folks are not easily as swayed to republicans because of lgbt issues. Kamala STILL got 85%+ of the black vote.
Whites and Hispanics fall for this shit all the time. Hispanics in 04 and 24. It’s really ridiculous. It dosent matter how good the economy could be doing, social issues will always keep the GOP competitive. 2000 proved this.
