What is a Tankie?

Basic Rules:

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.
Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.
Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Tankies are so weird with how they handle criticism of China or Russia. I think it has to do with admitting there are shitheads in those governments doing bad things implies the existence of shitheads in non-commie nations and that maybe you can just get rid of the shitheads instead of burning the whole thing down.

Every country has some level of shithead leaders, just some are far worse than others.
Nobody disagrees with this it’s an incredibly rare occasion someone is unaware of their own country’s shittiness (unless you’re a National Chauvinist tool like so many republicans).
The issue is the tankies/sinophiles immediately jump on the “but your country is shitty too!” bandwagon anytime they get criticized, like this magically makes the criticism invalid or something. It’s a bullshit argument.
It’s more likely (but not guaranteed) to get rid of shitheads in democratic countries than in autocratic authoritarian States like China or Russia.
That's where I'm getting at, though. They'll straight up disagree with any criticism. They'll say Ukraine for example was the aggressor against Russia. They'll deny any of China's ethnic cleansing or Russia's imperialism.
What I meant with the shithead comment was admitting their perfectly flawless states have bad actors in them opens the door to other states having bad actors, going against their narrative that non-communist states are fundamentally flawed and can't be fixed. Because fixing them rather than toppling them makes you a liberal fascist.
