Bold move given that people expect URLs rather than magnet URIs in this community.
This one isn't even hosted on youtube, only torrents. In lemmy 1.0 I believe we have a torrent helper if the link is a magnet link, that points here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/02-media.html#torrents
If we wanna get away from the centralized internet, ppl gotta start using torrents. Its super-easy even on mobile with apps like stremio anyway.
Hey this is cool. Quick question, I havnt seeded a torrent in ages, and def not from a phone. Can I ask a question?
It says I am seeding, but the upload speed is zero? Is it working or no?
also, thank you for the info/directions sheet.
No probs! Yep its working fine. It's in a seeding state, but the uploaded is still at 0B because no one else has asked to download yet.
alright cool, thank you. In another pannel it does list an active upload speed, so that makes sense. I could let this rock all day. I did see one active person pop up for down load real fast when I just looked again, so thats cool.
Are there any downsides to seeding on android (wi-fi) for an extended period of time do you know? It's just running in the background, and it does not seem to be effecting anything functionally. sorry for all the questions. Like I said, been many, many a year since Ive done this. Feeling pretty good rn not gonna lie
The main downside is battery life, which is why most people use desktop or server (IE plugged in) machines as their main seeding devices. But you can also just set libretorrent for android to only seed when plugged in.
Its also perfectly fine for mobile clients to be mostly leechers rather than seeders. All that's important is that there are at least some seeders for a torrent. If there's even two seeders, then we're already doing better than youtube for availability.
I guess a VPN-backed torrent server is another thing for my k8s cluster.
