On Monday, the US Supreme Court decided in Trump v. Slaughter that the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) may not be independent anymore. Since 2000, the EU has relied on the “independent” FTC as the enforcer of EU-US deals on personal data. According to EU treaty law, such oversight must be independent. In the current EU-US deal, the European Commission relies on the independent FTC 259 (!) times.

The CIA planted crack in black neighborhoods, the fbi killed all the civil rights leaders, our government injected black men with syphillis to see what happens, the end of Jim Crow just morphed into mass incarceration for black Americans, we committed a genocide on Native Americans, we have pedophiles running our government, we’ve destabilized hundreds of governments to plunder assets ……I could go on and on we’ve always been a fascist nation. For a moment I thought we might be improving but nope all hope is lost

I imagine if you compile a list of the worst any country has done that it'd look a lot like this.

That doesn't excuse anything, but all those things don't add up to Nazi Germany or 2026 Israel.

We're working on showing you what fascism really is.

I imagine

Yeah of course you do; because you start from a position of American exceptionalism and then just imagine backwards.

Oh yeah? What's your beacon of a country? England? France? China? Russia?

The fact is we were generally dragging the world (in hand with Europe) towards better ideals, like equal rights for all, democracy, and eliminating low level corruption.

It wasn't always the case, and was certainly in fits and starts. But in our absence I don't see China or India having that generally positive influence on the world.

Yes, there's room for improvement. But if we're at a C while most other countries are content with an F, well...

USAID has done a lot of good around the world.
