the federation. that no one single entity dominates it much. I know a bunch of people are going to list the large instances but they can by and large all be read by smaller instances and the fact there are several is better than one corpo owner. oh an that is gpl of course.

Yeah, I think people often assume that "good" federation means even user distribution. But the power of federation is that you can leave if you want to and no one can weaponize your social graph.
