Professors typically also have doctorates, though. Besides, professor is a title in most western countries. What it's not is a degree.

Yes, that's what I meant. Professor is quite something else than doctor

But professors are very often doctors, because they often have extensive research lines. And it helps a lot to have a PhD to get funding and it opens up jobs and other opportunities in scientific research.
