Reminder to everyone that Discord is pushing out ID Verification any day now, and is already selling all the data and discussions on its platform to fascist surveillance company Palantir, most well known for recent AI-Powered Civillian tracking system "Flock Cams", owned and operated by Billionaire Peter Theil who helped reelect Donald Trump.
That's why I moved to Stoat and at some point in the future plan to self-host.
I have a hosted Matrix serving sitting around for this reason. Trying to get folks to use it is another story π’
I'm hoping that Fluxer will be an easier option for my friends once the mobile apps are a bit more polished. I tried to get them to Matrix, but the experience just wasn't quite smooth enough.
Yeah it's rather jarring for those coming from discord. For us old goats it's a bit more palatable, kind of like IRC+++. But we aren't the median user.
I'm a bit worried about Matrix + Element because of some supposed ties to Israeli Intelligence organizations.
Oh? Iβll have to look into that. Thatβs enough for me to consider something else altogether.

Yeah, the day ID verification is rolled out discord will see a huge drop in numbers. Maybe not enough to end discord, but enough that they won't have the revenue or data sets to sell anymore.

These are the names of services that provide channels with customized text chats and video or VoIP audio calls. Stoat is replacing Discord which replaced Skype which replaced the more rudimentary early applications of the 2000s and 90s such as Mumble. There are also business-oriented softwares such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams with different features.
The word can also refer to a small furry animal.

does stoat have audio notifications yet? 6 months ago when I tried it that was my dealbreaker.
I get notifications on my KDE desktop but idk for anything else. They only recently released their mobile version, so there is still a lot of work being done behind the scenes.
