August 27th of this year is "last summer" now?
We're no longer in summer, so yes, it's the last summer relative to the current time of year. Could be regional (or even generational, I'm no expert), I've heard it said this way a lot. From what I understand "last summer" is grammatically correct, but they could have also used "this past summer", or "Summer 2025", or something similar as well.
Grammatically correct is the best kind of correct. I do understand the discomfort, though - a common implication behind this phrase is 'last year's summer'.
