I enjoy anime, however, I feel anime has been on a quality decline over the past few years. They are hollow shells of new seasons, clones of other popular anime, generic and uninspired stories, etc.

Anyone else feel this way?

P.s. I'm TIRED of highschool themed anime omg go away

I have to look for anime from the 90s and early 2000s to really get some good content

That might just be a matter of taste. I probably watched way more shows from those decades, but some of my all-time favorites have been released in the last few years. Mob Psycho, City, Frieren, Dungeon Meshi and Dandadan are probably the best adaptations I could have hoped for and among the best productions I've ever seen. There are plenty of lower budget releases I love as well, like mono, eizouken or bartender.

Sure, there's stuff that just doesn't get made anymore like hand animated original mecha and original anime in general have been declining, but at least for me there's more to watch than I really have time for.

Dandadan has a amazing opening and I know it's a quality show but some reason the plot and characters weren't that good for me.

The last scene of the latest season of Dandadan had some of the most beautiful stills I've seen in any anime.

I agree with OP and I don't consume nearly as much anime/manga as my more avid friends, so I can't speak to this as much as others. That said, I've also noticed this downwards trend towards rote formulaic generic anime (and general media as well). Sadly it just means there are more infrequent gems of unique and well produced anime, but it still happens.

It's probably not for everyone. I love comedy shows, parodies, wacky style and mystery, so it's perfectly tailored towards my tastes I guess. This might also be a personal thing, but I will say that episode 7 is one of the most well-directed and deeply emotional episodes I've ever seen.
