Didn’t watch it at all, what did Argentina do?
With the exception of Messi, they all played like petulant, dirty thugs all through the world cup. Especially against Egypt in their quarter-final and against Spain in the final. They also politicized the semi-final against England with a stupid banner.
They also started a fistfight after they lost the final and turned their backs on Spain when they received the trophy.
Honestly, this team should be disqualified from the next world cup, but instead they're being celebrated.
Messi was trying to get Cucurella red card. Cucurella was showing him that the other player was hit in the mouth and Messi started telling the referee that he covered his mouth to insult him. Was arguing that Cucurella should get red card for this. Incredibly desperate and pathetic.
Wow, that's shameful.
You can't say Messi isn't a thug when he is bribing the refs
I mean, if there's bribing going on there's no guarantee it's Messi doing it. Given his long career and the fact he's (as far as I hear; I don't watch football) the only one not playing like a thug, I'd say it's much more likely someone is bribing them for him.
fc barcelona was bribing the second powerfull man in spains referee organisation for 20 years+, got caught by the guardia civils financial division and they're still debating if there should be some sort of consequences. meanwhile most of the charges became time-barred.
Trump already politicised the whole event so who gives a fuck? FIFA is a corrupt organisation so just don’t support football played under that shit. Watch and support your local teams if you enjoy the sport.

The final wasn't a very good game. They didnt try to score at all in regulation and were clearly hoping to keep it at 0/0 to bring it to a shootout at the end.

Pure ignorance I'm sure. I know nothing about FIFA and little about Argentina, just watched the game yesterday and was disappointed that it was in no way competitive.
Imho (not a huge football expert, nor enthousiast), it was quite competitive. Both teams were so active to give neither one the chance to score until in the last minutes they put all of their energy into it to surprise the other one. I know, that it can be seen as boring (I also kinda thought the same most of the time), but damn... the response to the opportunities where quite fast and saved most of the goals. But imo Spain had much better gameplay and opportunities. Shame of those offsides
I can tell you are not a football enthusiast, that game was ass. Spain should've won by 3 to 0, there were two goals annulled by skin of the teeth technicalities. Argentina did nothing the whole game, except try to injure Spanish players in the hopes of a penalty result. Everyone knew this was going to be the case, but the magnitude was off the charts. Argentina was humiliated from a pure sport technical ability alone. Spain dominated the way I would expect a premiere league team to dominate a group of disorganized amateurs. It was honestly a bit painful to watch. Argentina was not competitive in the slightest, that was not how a game between two equally skilled teams typically goes. Watch England vs. France semi-finals for a better example of what high level play between matched teams actually looks like.

The whole competition they’ve been dragging the sport into the gutter. They’ve constantly been aggressively fouling as much as they can and they seem to have been getting away with so much there’s been a bit of a pattern. Lots of theories but I think FIFA saw this as an opportunity to break into the American market and wanted some drama, hence trying to get Messi into the finals for a dramatic finish. Early in the tournament Messi tackled someone and it should’ve been a red card but the ref didn’t even call the foul. The whole tournament for them has been overly aggressive tackles, pushing and shoving, shirt pulling, diving and general flouting of the rules and poor sportsmanship. It seemed like the ref in the final didn’t turn a blind eye quite so much and they finally got shown a red after literally hitting a player so hard he flipped upside down in the air.
Accusations of bias and terrible behaviour have folllowed them the whole tournament but they kind of became a talking point after they beat England and pulled out a flag saying that the Falklands are Argentinian which was a clear breach of the rules that says that political stuff isn’t allowed. Then it got really highlighted when they played Spain, who were disciplined and professional, against Argentina who were playing in their regular aggressive fashion, and the contrast just made Argentina look like a bunch of hooligans. Then when the game was over a substitute player ran onto the pitch to celebrate with the team and one of the Argentinian players punched him. The Spanish confronted him and the Argentinians escalated it multiple times.
in the end the Argentinians more or less became the baddies of the World Cup. This came the day after the Bronze game between England and France which was basically an example of excellent behaviour and sportsmanship (I don’t recall a single yellow card). After the match the teams congratulated each other and hung around on the pitch chatting and joking with each other.

Also forgot to mention there’s a new rule where players aren’t allowed to cover their mouthes in an argument, in order to stamp out things like racism. If they do it’s an automatic red card. Messi tried to use it to get a Spanish player sent off for touching his mouth. It didn’t work but everyone saw Messi try it.

They were trying first to force a penalty kick, the only way they could have hoped to score that game. Then in extra time they were certainly hoping for a penalty shootout to win it.
You watched a different game. Spain didn’t even let Argentina get the ball for the majority of the game.
