I think there should be a website that compares the top 5 or so instances and explains the differences between them. Since right now, new users will have no idea which one to join.

Instance owners could update the descriptions on https://join-lemmy.org/instances to include a link to a "Who are we" kind of readme.
Ultimately I'm not sure any of the instances will look the same in a month.
I agree to that. While the common mainstream news are reporting it, two-day drip in activity will hardly put a dent in the monthly analytic.
Some like r/dndmemes say it is indefinite.
