as i understand it, it's when (usually visual but idk) media treats women as, fundamentally, objects for men to lust over, instead of as people with agency and motivations of their own
there's a lot of shit downstream that i'm not well versed in but i think that's the core of it. i don't see why it couldn't be used as a framework to criticize real life stuff
