That's interesting. I heard the show was good, so started reading the books, and stopped after one cause the characters were so annoying.

I think they definitely improve from the first book. They have great politics and they're kind of structured like 3 trilogies. Try 2 and 3 if you want a decently satisfying conclusion without committing to more. The break between 6 and 7 is much more clear, and the reason the show ends at book 6.

Lol dammit, I just realized I did the same thing with The Expanse. And I also read the first book but not the others. And I did the same thing with the video game too!

I think it's something I want to enjoy, but wasn't enjoying as much as I felt I should be.
