Been getting into Elite, really enjoying it so far. Just finished my first tour of deep space outside the bubble. On one hand it's a boring game, but it's also oddly captivating. And since getting a hotas setup it's become a total pleasure.
Edit: I'm not really informed about the Arx-only issues. I don't like or understand "pay to win" games, but don't really have a problem like getting early access to stuff for real money. I bought elite for 5$ years ago, and now that I'm playing it again and enjoying it so much, I would be tempted to drop a bit if cash Frontiers way so that they can keep developing and expanding the game. I also understand, as a busy older person, that a requirement to grind, or even spend 60 hours hauling supplies somewhere to get the thing you want, isn't everyone's idea of fun.
In a sense I'd rather find ways to raise money from fans of the game, than change and spoil the game in an attempt to make it more widely popular. But I do think having features that are fundamentally better and pay-only is a dark path, and doesn't fill me with hope for the future of the game. And as the video the other commentor linked describes, that's the issue with the current proposal. It's not just a time saver if you've got more money than time, it's creating a two tier galaxy.
I bet Elite with a hotas feels great.
I thought Elite was solid, but I am more of an X3 person, I like the economic strategy elements.
