They tried the same coup in Brazil, but the difference is that it was actively supported by the military. Every idiot who invaded the Congress and Supreme Court was arrested. They prosecuted everyone involved in the planning and financing, arrested generals, and the leader of the coup, the guy who lost the election, was just sentenced to 27 years in prison - Trump tried to use tariffs to pressure the current government not to prosecute the previous one for the coup attempt, but they didn’t give a fuck.
Why would Brazil care about US tarrifs since their main exports are in direct competition to America's main exports? China didn't buy a single US soybean this year, but they aren't going without.
Trump announced 50% tariffs (higher than those he’d announced for any other country at the time) and the USA buys about 20% of Brazil’s production - mainly minerals, oil, and steel, but it’s also the main buyer of Brazilian coffee. A few days before the tariffs took effect, Trump exempted about 600 items, so it was mostly a bluff, I guess he didn’t really want to penalize American industry just to protect some Latin wannabe dictator, however, he kept the coffee tariffs, and roughly half the coffee consumed in the USA came from Brazil - so yeah, the reason Americans are paying more for coffee is that Trump made a bluff to protect a friend and didn’t want to look so dumb when it got called lol
