I literally just googled it and you can get wired earbuds at Target for $4.99. Audio quality is probably shit but still better than a phone speaker.
The majority of new phones unfortunately don't have a headphone jack these days. I still come down on the side of "not on the bus please" but cheap wired phones aren't an option for many (most?) people.
Good point but wireless earbuds aren't THAT much more expensive.
