I’ve started the process of getting certified as a teacher in Pennsylvania. I am hoping to get a job teaching there next school year (or maybe earlier, but I don’t think I’ll be able to save enough to move/break my lease).

I would like to work at an urban, high need/title 1 school teaching math or science. I am a stealth trans man - I pass very well, but need to be in a place where being “outed” would not be dangerous or problematic. Which places would be safe?

My dream location would be some place where I can live in a cheap studio apartment and take public transport to get to work. Selling my car is part of my plan to raise the funds to move. I’d like to live in a place close to “gay” stuff, if that makes sense.

What parts of Philly should I be looking at?

Thanks for all of the advice! My goal is above all avoiding those “Pennsyltucky” places. I’ve spent time in Eastern Oklahoma and feel like I’ve got enough of that for a lifetime. Being near campus actually works out great for me - lots of extra opportunity for work and networking.

I’ve wanted to visit the art museum since high school honestly - they have my favorite work of art.

I felt really heartened when I looked at the process for applying for a drivers license - that they had a form where you could request your gender. They even had ‘X’ as an option!

That's a banger of a favorite art piece. My favorite is also a surreal piece (that I've been searching for ages and can't seem to find the name of despite having seen it in the MoMA, aaargh)

Good luck with the move!
