I'd highly recommend Kagi to anyone who is a power searcher. It's paid, about $10/month (in freedom bucks), which definitely makes it a first world luxury since they don't scale pricing based on region, but honestly, it's a life changer. The results are great and what I'm looking for is usually the first result. It's like what Google used to be like a decade or more ago. You can also modify your "algorithm" in your account settings to favor specific sites, or to lower the ranking of/completely block specific sites, it's really neat. SearxNG also has quite a few of these things, but I've still come to prefer Kagi even after running my own SearxNG instance for a few months. If you go to their site, you can do 50 free search queries without an account just to get a feel for it.
i just can't fathom needing to pay for search results though.. maybe because i'm so used to the trash that is google now, but somehow i still find what i need
I really wish there was something that met my standards and was free, but no dice yet
so for now, I reluctantly pay $10 to save me quite a bit of time, which I think is a fair trade at least personally. I've tried Duckduckgo and Startpage and they're okay and I happily recommend those to people, at least there isn't Google's LLM overview thing at the top of the page! Though I still find myself on the 3rd page looking for what I want quite frequently on Duckduckgo and Startpage both which happens very rarely on Kagi.
fair enough. it is quite a slog anymore and will only get worse so i'm glad folks are supporting another way because maybe we'll all end up needing it
