This was a festival called "good things" this was photo was taken at the Melbourne show a couple days ago.

But yeah as the other person said. It improves efficiency. You can basically have 1 area (2 stages) where the live music never stops because bands play alternate stages. They setup one stage while the other stage has someone playing and alternate all day.

This has been standard for as long as I've been going to festivals.

This was stages 3 and 4. Stages 1 and 2 had the same layout

I can't recall a single festival I've been to that didnt do this, and I go to a lot
