I'm going to make two points here. First, "Goons" is a loaded word. I don't disagree with the usage, but U.S. News is intended to be more balanced.

You're not in a 1-col here. "Slam" is not a verb called for in modern journalism. What are we going to do next? Eye? Mull? Reference Solons?
