The FDA is happy to regulate clothing, but has zero interest in regulating supplements. For the record, there's plenty of evidence of these unregulated supplements causing actual illness and harm.

Not the FDA’s fault. Blame the US Congress for that. Long ago they passed legislation forbidding the FDA from regulating supplements.

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 reclassified supplements as food rather than drugs, if anyone's interested. This allowed Herbalife to swoop in and sell unregulated supplements through their MLM which made at least a few people I know sick.
