A conversation between Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson summed up 2025 for me – and not in a good way

I know the term "toxic masculinity" is somewhat controversial, at least in some groups, but men like Rogan and Gibson are perfect examples of what the term is meant to describe. It's a mentality based on the idea that "might makes right." Being physically strong, or powerful in some way, makes you "right." To the toxically masculine man, it is power and control that determines what is right or true. That's why it doesn't matter if what they're saying is verifiably false. Gaslighting people into doubting their own senses is the point. There's no greater demonstration of control and dominance than having more influence over someone than that person's own eyes and ears and mind. It's all about control and so the best way to defeat these men is to deny them that control.
