It doesn't work on a large scale because people with Cluster B personality disorders will always corrupt any system we come up with.
And historically those systems are typically structured in a way that allows authoritarianism and dictators to take over more quickly. The government has to control everything, which creates a much smaller point of failure.
Capitalism is a shit system, but it took ~200 years to corrupt to this point because the power is more distributed (at first).
The US is reaching the average lifespan of an Empire. Capitalism has not been particularly good at preventing collapse, it has been about average.
It's not just the US; we're just speed running the end while the western world follows behind.

Acknowledging that a problem is more wide spread than just one country isn't dismissing anything. In fact, I addressed that fact that the US is worse than the rest.
I think your reading comprehension needs some work.
Depends on when you consider the corruption of the wealthy came in. The Civil War was fought over slavery and it was because rich land barons in the south didn't want to have workers they paid anything to. So they also greased government hands to try and keep it. So the rot set in quickly, it just took longer to metastasize.

The only thing worse than a person whose opinion changes based on the last person they talk to, is an AI whose opinion changes based on what oligarch or employee was able to sneak something into the model/code.

You want a leader that dominates the country using force. Well congrats you got that leader its Trump. You dont get to pick between democracy and authoritarianism when it suits you.
What about achieving socialism without using force?
You wont be able to strip away peoples right to own private capital without force? Even if we pretend that the government was able to somehow democratize majority of the economies captial there would still be the issue that we see in all socialist/communist countries where government workers are a tier above everyone else and abuse that power both directly and indirectly.
If you cant own anything yourself then you are forced to rely on the government for everything and hope that they are benevolent. If America magically became socialist today, trump would be the leader, do you trust him with absolute control over the entire nation?
What do you think of Marxism-Leninism?
It has some ok critiques of capitalism and some ok framing for class interactions but I think its a terrible ideology full of holes and logical inconsistencies. I hate the idea of a vanguard party, I hate the idea of removing private ownership. I think Marxist-Leninists are in the same bucket as nazi's or any kind supremacist.
You do realize this is a federated site, right? There are Marxist-Leninists here. Here's a challenge: I want you to repeat what you just said in !socialism@lemmy.ml. The replies are gonna be full of ML people rightfully correcting you with legitimate criticism
Yes I know its federated, I dont control which instances .world federates with nor am I afraid of seeing opinions i disagree with. .ML people wouldnt correct me on their instance I'd just get banned. You can go through the mod logs yourself if you want to see how the handle any discussion that isnt bootlicking.
