I started learning on that Shavian School website, but I'm having realllll trouble accepting "๐ฆ" instead of "๐ฐ" for words that end in "y". In my accent that is definitely a long " ee" sound. I think the site uses "๐จ๐ฅ ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐จ๐๐ฆ?" as an example, and for me that's like unpronounceable lol
I didn't use that resource, and when I started writing I used ๐ฐ for words ending in "y".
I agree with you, for me it seems like the better choice!
Looking up the phonetics for happy the school seems to match, but I still agree with you. XD
Maybe I misunderstand the โ๐ฆโ sound, but I thought it was only supposed to have one interpretation. And if doesn't sound like happy.
Yeah like not at allll lol. I guess I didn't think about like, obviously different accents would be a problem for an alphabet like this? But on the other hand, if everyone just spelled it their own way, that doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to parse regardless

so, IPA lists i as such:

but then i don't know what's the difference with ๐ฐ.
Shavian site shows /ษช/~/i/ for ๐ฆ, but those are two different sounds, the 'ih' and the 'ii' respectively.
so yeah, in order to disambiguate, i'd need ๐ฆ to be either one or the other, but it can't be both and can't overlap with the sound for ๐ฐ.
so i'm still left in agreement, that i need to treat ๐ฆ as /ษช/ only.
sorry i keep repeating this, but it bothers me too. XD
edit and FINALLY, in QUIKSCRIPT, the revised version of Shavian, he specifies ๐ฆ as ONLY /ษช/, 'ih.' for me, that settles that! XD

I was going to try and play Devil's advocate on this, but looking at the IPA example words you shared, I'd be inclined to write all those with ๐ฐ. That makes it hard to argue against this!
I wonder if there are any words pronounced with /i/ that would seem more natural with ๐ฆ than ๐ฐ

exactly. in this case, uniformity isn't goal, but accurate representation of what is being said.
@2910000 has a different accent from me and it comes across in his writing, but hasn't stopped me from understanding. and i have fun reading things in his accent now. XD
Oh wow yeah, that's actually really cool! As long as it's not any harder to learn, that actually seems better than how we currently write. Everybody's unique voice comes through!
I think I agree with you. The short i sounds like "ih" as in if to me, as opposed to a long "ii" as in eat.
I'm not using the school and just winging it. I say type it out as it sounds to you.
