from what I remember they have already cured T1 and T2 in trials, they have patients with both that are off insulin after gene therapies

Just a handful of people. I'm not sure about T2 as my T1 ass doesn't follow any news/research about it specifically, but I do know for certain that they 'cured' T1 in a woman using her own stem cells which they turned into islet cells (the insulin producing ones in your pancreas), injected her with them, and her body was still producing its own insulin again/managing hypoglycemia by itself after a year. That case specifically though the woman was already taking immunosuppresants so it is really unclear on if that kind of treatment would actually work in diabetics without our immune systems just going stalin-gun-1stalin-gun-2 to them like it already does to our natural islet producing areas in our pancreases.
