An aging population always becomes more conservative. They are easily frightened and don't like change.

This is a natural tendency in humans that authoritarians exploit.

Bless the Millennial generation who seem to be bucking this trend.

I used to think the internet brought a shift towards progressivism for all generations adapted to it, but now I think it was likely an aberration for millennials - when our internet was controlled and crafted essentially only by those smart enough to navigate it. Then when the internet became 3-4 apps, conservativism as consensus became the norm again.

Hopefully we're a big enough cohort like the boomers were, that we can set a progressive political standard for a few decades.

It's not about cohorts, it's about being human. Humans as they age tend to get more frightened and don't like change. Not all humans, but most.

It's one reason I understand the dreadful necessity for death, younger people are more likely to make and adopt change.

You'd think that, but the general age with which people tend to trend conservative is currently met by millennials, and they're not turning conservative - if anything they're becoming slightly more left wing.

And I shun your necessity of death. Crispr will enable me to see 1 billion years (I hope god I hope I hope)

I don't think it was the 3-4 apps, left wing progressives continued to one up themselves to the point they became annoying af, it's like many of them have that autistic need to virtue signal to show they are better than everyone else, more caring, more inclusive, etcetc, until the point it got ridiculous

yeah. fucking millennials always trying to be more caring. Bastards. Totally ridiculous.

boomers were the hippies

the greatest generation brought in the civil rights act

wow did you just say the b word??? do you not know the historical exclusionary societal effects of that word!!! you fkin nazi 😡 - millennials being caring

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And being a hate filled conservative isn't annoying?

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

conservatism is not about hate, it's about remembering one's youth and wanting life to be the same as then, it's about not wanting change

but that is the core definition, not the partisan and media definition

as I wrote, authoritarians take advantage of the natural tendencies in older humans to be frightened and not want change

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

It may not be about hate, but they often go hand in hand. Fear of change and The Other often breeds hate.
