TIL my favorite show growing up was spun off the Tracy Ullman show. I'd never looked into it, I had no idea 🤔

Yeah, they would air shorts that slowly played out what amounted to a single episode.

Oh cool! Kind of like the idea of a serial (in newspapers where they'd do a chapter of a book a week or whatever)?

Yeah, like that. That's also how they would run serial shows at movie theaters before TV.

Simpsons only got one story before it became it's own thing, though.
